You thought you were drowning and
I said to you:
“Drowning is a luxury we aren’t allowed.
You know why?
Because we don’t let ourselves.
When it comes down to it,
We don’t let ourselves drown.”
And then you thought you were the weight around my ankle and
I said to you:
“If it comes down to it,
I will put me before you.”
Now my lungs are slowly filling up as I do nothing.
And I think of the words that I said to you.
And I think that the water tastes familiar.
The water tastes like lies.
